Gerald’s Jewelry is committed to safeguarding your jewelry while it is in our care. We maintain secure handling procedures and controlled storage practices for items left for repair, custom work, appraisal, cleaning, or other services. The following policy provides clarity regarding responsibility, timelines, and unclaimed property.
Customers will be notified when their item is ready for pickup. Items left unclaimed for more than sixty (60) days after customer notification may be subject to storage fees. At our discretion, unclaimed items may be transferred to secure long-term storage or handled in accordance with applicable Washington State law governing unclaimed property and lawful disposition.
Gerald’s Jewelry reserves the right to charge reasonable storage fees for items held beyond the sixty (60) day period. Continued non-response or failure to retrieve property may result in additional actions permitted under Washington State law, including lawful disposition of the item to recover outstanding balances, service fees, or storage costs.
Gerald’s Jewelry maintains a structured Transfer to Secure Holding Policy for all repairs, custom work, appraisals, and customer property left in our care. Once an item has been completed and is ready for pickup, we notify the customer using the contact information provided at intake, which may include phone, text, email, or another documented method. The “Date of Last Contact” is defined as the most recent documented attempt to inform the customer that their item is completed and available for pickup, and this date will always occur after the item has been finished. As a courtesy, completed items are held securely on-site for 60 days from the Date of Last Contact at no additional charge, during which time reasonable efforts may be made to remind the customer to arrange pickup. If an item remains unclaimed beyond 60 days from the Date of Last Contact, it may be transferred to secure holding, which includes insured storage, vault-level security handling, administrative tracking, preservation of customer property, and continued documentation and contact attempts. This process is designed to protect high-value jewelry and customer-owned items while they remain in our possession.
Once an item is transferred to secure holding, a reasonable monthly secure holding and administrative fee will apply. The fee is based on the estimated appraisal value documented at the time of drop-off and follows a structured schedule: a minimum of $25 per month, generally ranging between $25 and $75 per month depending on value. Items valued up to $2,500 are subject to a $25 monthly fee, and for items exceeding $2,500 in estimated value, an additional $10 per month is applied for every $1,000 of value over $2,500. For example, an item appraised at $5,000 at intake would result in an estimated secure holding fee of $50 per month. All valuation references are derived from intake documentation, appraisal notes, or a reasonable market assessment at the time the item is received.
Our goal is to provide secure, professional care for every piece entrusted to us. If you anticipate needing additional time to retrieve your jewelry, we encourage you to communicate with us in advance so appropriate arrangements can be made.
